The subtly sweet and smoky tea that we know as rooibos comes from the leaves of the ‘red bush’ plant (Aspalathus linearis), a legume that only grows in the Cedarberg region of South Africa. The rugged sandstone mountains of the Cedarberg lie at the north of the Cape Floral Kingdom, one of the world’s richest natural habitats.
Naturally caffeine free, low in tannins and 100% organic, Equal Exchange’s rooibos range uses only the highest quality rooibos leaf hand-picked by small-scale farmers.
The vibrant red colour of rooibos develops during fermentation, post-harvest, brought about by natural enzymes in the plant.
Unlike lots of the rooibos tea on the shelves, we do not buy our tea from large South African estates, so you are helping to provide market access to the most marginalised farmers and sustaining the natural environment too.
Equal Exchange rooibos is packed in South Africa adding value at origin.
