Welcome to our June newsletter with information about our best-selling decaf coffee, Equal Exchange UK team visiting EE HQ in Boston Mass for their annual summit, and new bulk coffee options on our webshop!
Our decaf coffees regularly steal the spotlight among our bestsellers—and that’s no accident.

Many decaf coffees on the market almost taste like an afterthought but we use specialty green beans from Sol Y Café in Peru because choosing decaf should not mean settling for disappointing flavour and quality.
As you would expect from a certified organic coffee range, we chose the chemical free Swiss Water Process as our decaffeination method and we've been using it for over 20 years. It uses Green Coffee Extract (water with soluble coffee compounds) to draw out the caffeine molecules while the flavour and other compounds remain within the coffee. So no nasty chemicals, just pure natural decaffeination.

We know that people also have a preference for roast colour so we offer medium and dark roasts as well as both ready ground and whole bean so you really can have your cake and eat it, in a manner of speaking.
USA Visit for EE Summit
Last week, 3 Equal Exchange UK team members visited the company’s global headquarters just outside of Boston, Massachusetts. The trip coincided with Equal Exchange’s annual summit, this year an even bigger celebration due to the company’s 40th anniversary. Rachel, Michelle and George spent meaningful time with the team in the US prior to the summit looking at their factory operations and discussing the work going on between the two locations. The UK site manufacture tea bags, fruit and nut retail bags and roasted cashew nuts for the US market. They also had a time to explore Boston, a unique experience with the World Cup and the 250th anniversary of American independence being marked currently.

Their final day was spent at the Equal Exchange summit where a dynamic gathering of farmers, Equal Exchange worker-owners (including coop members from the UK, La Siembra in Canada and throughout the United States), customers, organizers, and partners reflected on four decades of impact, confronting today’s realities, and charted the next chapter of their solidarity economy. The UK team took part in a workshop on small farmer tea focusing on the difficult tea industry, producers, and the exciting new development of taking tea blending and packing in-house at Equal Exchange UK. Experiencing all the parts of the Equal Exchange ‘eco-system’ in person was a wonderful opportunity for the UK team and we look forward to broadening our connection together in the future.
